I agree with Mr. Speed. Starkville can be great. Mississippi State University is the largest university in the state with some of the most talented faculty, staff, alumni, and students. The people of Starkville are hard-working and friendly. The downtown area has never looked better and our citizens care about the future of Starkville. Our retail base is expanding and we are ripe for economic growth. Starkville has great partners in Mississippi State University, Oktibbeha County, and the other communities in the Golden Triangle.
However, we arenít great yet.
Citizensí voices have been ignored by current city officials. Starkville has lost opportunities to provide services and facilities to its citizens. Parts of our community do not look good. Current codes and ordinances are not enforced. Growth has occurred without thought of the impact on existing neighborhoods and residents. Poor design and planning have created repetitive and uninteresting areas in our town.
Starkville deserves better.
I have worked for thirty-five years to create the Cotton District, a successful neighborhood in our community. I can use my experience to help Starkville be great. As Mayor, I promise to promote responsible growth. Public investments will be seen as economic stimulus packages. Peopleís voices will be heard and together we will create a vision for Starkvilleís future.
I need your support and vote for Mayor so we can all say: "Starkville is great!"
